Report of the MFRDMD/SEAFDEC First Regional Workshop on Remote Sensing of Phytoplankton 17 - 18 November 1998 Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia
Abstract
An account is given of the discussions held at the Workshop, which intended to create an awareness of marine remote sensing applications and also to establish regional research priorities. The Workshop was attended by participants from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Country status reports with information as to the current status of marine remote sensing applications were given for each of the participating countries, and also for the Philippines. They are included as annexes to the document, together with 5 technical reports which were also presented at the Workshop: Background of plankton I - biology of plankton; Background of plankton II - harmful algal blooms (HABs), possible causes; Remote sensing technology for phytoplankton; Production and distribution of phytoplankton observed by ADEOS - application of satellite imagery for fisheries; and, Phytoplankton distribution mapping using NOAA AVHRR satellite data.
