Marine resource management efforts include Fisheries Management Areas, Marine Protected Areas, Fisheries Refugia, and seasonal closures, as well as various input and output controls to regulate fishing activities. These measures include limiting the number and size of fishing vessels and gears, enforcing licensing systems, controlling mesh sizes, restricting fishing days, and setting allowable catch limits. Fishing effort trends indicate stable vessel numbers in most AMSs, though some countries, such as Viet Nam, reported decreasing in number of fishing vessels but increasing vessel horsepower. The primary vessel types for pelagic fisheries include purse seiners, drift netters, trawlers, falling netters, and long liners.en
The project focuses on pelagic fisheries, reinforcing responsible fisheries governance. In line with the Strategic Plan of Action of ASEAN Cooperation on Fisheries 2021 - 2025, this project aims to enhance ASEAN cooperation and facilitate the improvement of regional fisheries information systems or mechanisms through the implementation of RPOA Capacity for the management of selected pelagic species fisheries towards resource sustainability and environmental well-being.en
