abstrak
This RTC represents the fourth and final consultation under the project entitled “Implementation and Assessment of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action (RPOA) for Management of Fishing Capacity.” Initiated in April 2024 and scheduled to conclude in April
this year, this project is generously funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). It involves the active participation from fisheries management agencies across ASEAN Member States (AMSs), except for Lao PDR. The project’s goal is to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance fisheries information systems through the implementation of RPOA Capacity, focusing particularly on selected pelagic species to promote sustainability and responsible resource management.
Penerangan
RTC marks an important milestone as we move into the fourth output of the project: “Current status on conservation and management strategies of selected pelagic fishes in AMSs are identified and documented.” Conservation efforts for pelagic fisheries are vital to safeguarding fish stocks and marine ecosystems, while management strategies emphasize regulating fishing capacity, strengthening monitoring and surveillance, and fostering regional cooperation. Together, these approaches form the foundation for ensuring the long-term sustainability of shared pelagic resources, which are critical to food security, livelihoods, and
ecological balance in Southeast Asia.
